Torreón

To see details of this section:

We rolled out of the canyon on our way to Torreón.

We had to say goodbye to the family of dogs that had adopted us. They live wild at the campsite but were very well behaved and quite useful.

On our first night there I woke to sounds of something rattling the pans that we had left out. When I shone the head torch over there was a raccoon trying to get into our food pannier and the food on our bike. The second night the dogs hung around our tent and we think that their barking frenzy in the middle of the night was too scare off the returning raccoon.

(Raccoon paw print on my top tube bag. Hey, Natasha - it is still going strong. I managed to fit an orange, two apples and a few bars in there the other day)

La Loma was the first landmark in our day. We asked for directions to a restaurant and were told we should go to La Cazuela. We tracked it down and were glad we had. Each restaurant seems to out do the previous one. This was a family fun affair that looked like it was in a converted living room. The food was delicious but the highlight were the family running it. They were really interested in our trip and all seemed to have a smile or a laugh permanently on their face. We joked about how our bike does not have a motor (apart from Rachel) and how I needed to watch my head on in the door as I left. As we set off, they all came outside to watch. We left feeling not only full but with a warm feeling because of having encountered such delightful people.

Our arrival into Torreón marked our fifth Mexican state. I'm not going to list them as I know my Dad will enjoy looking them up.

Torreón, like everywhere else is in full swing for the build up to Christmas. Having made good time here, we satisfied ourselves with a slow ride through town taking in the sights rather than taking a full day off the bike to sightsee. This means that we will continue riding tomorrow heading towards Saltillo. There is a national park south of the town where we plan to spend Christmas.
