Now that we are entering spring, the sun is getting more powerful which means it is time for an update on my daft tan lines. I've begun to develop white finger: not because of the cold but because my fingers are tucked under my grips while the backs of my hands face the sun.
In addition, I'm getting some interesting spots on feet from wearing crocs everyday.
We had a great stay in Nuevo Arenal. It caters for tourists and so there were plenty of restaurants, cafes and bakeries. NB the lake was increased in size for a hydro scheme and old Arenal is now underwater, hence 'new Arenal'
We were delighted to find a health food store that had red lentils and veggie stock cubes. We are so excited about being able to expand our culinary repertoire.
Another thing that is quite mind blowing is that the tap water is safe to drink. After nearly five months of buying or filtering water it is something else to be able to drink direct from the tap.
The views of the lake were stunning which explains why Nuevo Arenal had lots of tourist facilities.
The lake is next to Arenal volcano. This had puffs of smoke coming from the top all day. As it is so active, all the rivers that run off it are warm. This one was bath temperature and crystal clear. We were able to park the bike, walk 50m and just soak in the warm waters. Bliss.
Seeing a sign for 'rice pudding' brought on a sudden application of the brakes. Fransisco served us some delicious rice pudding with coconut and we chatted about this and that while we ate it.
We had a great encounter today as we knew we were going to rendezvous with Elani who is also riding the Americas. Elsni's partner has come down from America to visit and had kindly brought some Schwalbe tyres for us. We thought the rendezvous would be in La Fortuna but as it happened, they passed us on the road in their hire car and we did a roadside hand over.
It front tyre has done over 11000km and when you compare old with new in the photo below I'm sure you will agree that we have had good value from it.
To finish, a photo of us in front of the volcano just before the last descent to La Fortuna where we plan to stay for two nights.

Your tan lines are hilarious! Yep, that front tyre definately needs changing. You got value for money there though! Unlike the other one. Unlucky!
