Antibiotics
During our relaxing day at the thermal pools Rachel noticed that her thumb didn't look a good colour.
After a long time at the local hospital it was confirmed that it was infected. She got an antibiotic jab in the bum and some oral antibiotics to take. Although it took 5 hours to be checked and treated, it was entirely free of charge.
Her thumb isn't bothering her too much but the antibiotics make her feel nauseous. We have decided that it makes sense to stay where we are until the course of drugs is over and she feels normal again.
The hostel we are in is very low key and we have got quite used to hanging out and chilling. There is one paid member of staff, one other guest who is staying for a long time and two guests who are volunteering at the hostel (so fall between guest and staff categories) as well as the occasional short stay first. This makes for a family type atmosphere that is very relaxing.
When preparing for our tour, we had read many blogs about people on long tours who stopped in random places for a long time to regain their momentum and enthusiasm for touring. When we started our tour, I couldn't imagine ever feeling like I would want to stop. However, having a extended rest brought upon us with nothing much to do each day had been surprisingly invigorating. I think we are both appreciating not being on the move for a bit. We are also doing lots of research into the route ahead. We have read lots of blogs, spent ages using Google Street View and looking at potential overnight stop locations on iOverlander. This is helping us build motivation and enthusiasm for our remaining weeks.
