Within 30m of our hostel was this small plaza where we stocked up on freshly baked rolls and I had a bean, cheese and potato gordita for the road.
The highlight of the day was meeting Rhodri on the way to San Miguel de Allende. He began his tour in Alaska. You might guess from his name that he is Welsh. We really enjoyed riding with him, chatting about life on the road and generally getting to know one another.
We had a tailwind all day which, combined with the good conversation, really helped the miles fly by. Before we knew it, we were at our destination and able to enjoy another colonial town with some amazing architecture.
We parted ways with Rhodri at the edge of town and made our way to stay with our warmshowers hosts for the night, the lovely Slavin family (Ben, Amber, Maverick and Mason). It was a delight to be welcomed into their home and to get to know them and hear about their adventures.
As we climbed out of town the next day we got a great view down onto the imposing church.
We were quickly into a quiet back road and enjoying the views when all of a sudden the tarmac ended and we found ourselves on cobbles. Nothing for it but to carefully bump out way along. Thankfully they turned to dirt after not too long and that became tarmac again not long after that.
The run into Querétaro was punctuated by a visit to the Decathlon (detailed in Rachel's post). It also marked our entry into yet another Mexican state.
We are getting a bit blasé about colonial towns after three in three days. We contented ourselves with a quick look round some of the main sights.
This unlikely looking place was our dinner stop. It was in the yard of a residential street, we had to ring a bell to enter and could not quite believe it was a real restaurant. It was run by a lively man who cooked us up a delicious feast of beans, egg, cheese and pineapple with a tortilla all inside a toasted/fried bun.
Our venue for the night is a bike shop. I keep having to pinch myself as it is a dream come true. Edna and Orlando are letting us sleep on the floor of their bike shop for the night. Wonderful.
